Glaucoma

Glaucoma

  • Usually no symptoms. If very high pressures can experience headaches, glare, halos
  • Open and narrow angle
  • Followed with visual field, optic nerve imaging, monitoring of eye pressures
  • Treated with laser, glaucoma eye drops, eye surgery. Glaucoma implants can be placed at time of cataract surgery by your surgeon
Age Related Macular Degeneration

Age Related Macular Degeneration

  • May have blurry central vision, distorted Amsler grid
  • Dry form managed with close observation and recommended UV protection, no smoking, dietary changes, AREDS-2 multivitamins, monitoring Amsler Grid regularly
  • Wet form treated with above in addition to intravitreal injections, laser by retinal specialist

Diabetic eye disease

  • May have blurry vision that fluctuates with elevated blood sugars
  • Leaking retinal blood vessels, abnormal vessels
  • Managed by controlling blood sugars through diet, exercise, medications, close follow up with your medical doctor, endocrinologist, nutritionist
  • Regular dilated eye exam, may include imaging to assess for retinal thickening
  • If abnormal blood vessels occur may need treatment with laser, intravitreal injections, or surgery by your retanol speciliast

  • Crusty, irritated, red eyelids
  • Can experience burning, tearing, redness usually worse in the morning
  • Can be associated with Demodex
  • Managed with daily eyelid hygiene, may need topical and/or oral antibiotics prescribed by Dr. Pham
Dry Eyes

Dry Eyes

  • Burning, irritated eyes, can be red, tearing
  • Usually worse with activities using eyes and in the evening
  • Managed with making sure you have adequate hydration, sleep, avoiding drafts to face
  • Regular use of over the counter artificial tears 2-4 times a day, gel at night
  • Prescription eye drops to increase tear production, punctal plugs placed in office by your ophthalmologist
Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis

  • Red, swollen eyes, may have discharge, tearing, itching, irritation
  • Can be due to infection (viral, bacterial), allergies, dry eyes
  • Diagnose and treat underlying cause. Treatment may include antibiotic eye drops, allergy eye drops, lubricating eye drops
  • If associated with contact lenses, discontinue wear immediately and contact Dr. Pham
Stye

Stye

  • Red, swollen, painful eyelid
  • Manage with warm water compresses, prescription eye drops, may need oral antibiotics and surgical drainage by Dr. Pham
Eyelid Lesions

Eyelid Lesions

  • Can be benign or more ominous malignant growths
  • See your eye doctor or dermatologist to check if lesion can be observed or needs to be removed by Dr. Pham
